There was darkness surrounding you as your body felt as if it were being constricted. Yes, in this horrid place you were in, somehow you weren’t dead yet. You could hear the very audible cries of the canines around you, the white walls and cool, crisp air unwelcoming. Your ears pricked forwards as a human reached through the bars of your cage, and you backed away from the human, whimpering. The human began to unlock the door, and open it. Seeing a chance to escape your prison, you blasted out of the kennel on agile paws, and out into the yard. You could hear the sudden wails of the small human that tried to earn your trust, and with that, you were gone. Gone to run into the woods. What would become of you...? —————————————————-

It had been a few days since your escape from the pound. Your stomach attacked you with angry growls for food, and unfortunately, you weren’t a very skilled hunter. You managed to catch a few squirrels and potential unsuspecting birds here and there, but other than that, you weren’t sustained. For some reason on this sunny day, it was extremely hot at the edge, and the rest of the horizon before you was covered in sand and rock. You had arrived at the desert, you suspected, setting a paw on the blistering earth. You winced, but began to pad into the desert in search for more food perhaps, unbeknownst that the desert would be bare.

You had been padding along for a while, it seemed like days. Your mouth was dry, your paw pads cracked and bleeding, and you couldn’t breathe very well because your nose was also very dry, not moist like a canines nose should be. Your vision was hazy as you thought you could see a collapsed citadel in the distance, with other wolves buzzing around in it. Had you found heaven? No... You found us.

And we will be sure that you’ll never be alone again.
